Store security systems (cloud-managed surveillance cameras and access control) and store IT infrastructure (network, Wi-Fi, phone systems, and LTE backup)

2. Background

Goldwin, a sports and outdoor apparel brand, opened its first US flagship store in San Francisco in 2019. As the brand grew, it expanded beyond its ski-wear roots into lifestyle and fashion. Seeking a location that would let it connect with more customers and showcase its brand identity on a larger stage, Goldwin decided to relocate to New York, one of the world's leading cities, opening a new flagship store in April 2026 to strengthen its profile as a global brand.

SYSCOM had been providing ongoing IT infrastructure implementation and support for Goldwin's West Coast stores since 2019. Building on that track record and relationship of trust, SYSCOM was given the opportunity to support to support the implementation and operation of the physical security system and IT infrastructure for the new New York flagship store as well.

3. Implemented Solution

Opening the new store required strengthening security through surveillance cameras, access control, and intrusion detection, alongside setting up networking, Wi-Fi, phone systems, and internet connectivity, all within a tight construction timeline.

Coordinating across multiple parties, including the general contractor, internet service provider, and security vendor, while adapting to construction schedule changes, presented a significant challenge.

To address this, SYSCOM provided an integrated physical security solution built on Verkada and a cloud-managed IT infrastructure solution by Cisco Meraki, while also handling internet service arrangement, project management, and vendor coordination as a single point of contact.

This approach enabled efficient setup of the security environment and IT foundation needed for the store opening, while reducing the coordination burden on the client and keeping schedule risk in check throughout the project.

4. Challenges Before Implementation

This project required building out security systems and IT infrastructure in parallel with store construction. Because internet line installation, cabling work, and security equipment installation were closely tied to the general contractor's progress on wall and ceiling work, ongoing coordination of site surveys and installation schedules across multiple parties was essential.

In addition, changes to the construction schedule and shifting on-site conditions required the team to revisit equipment delivery timing and installation plans. This made it essential to have a project structure that could adapt quickly to change.

Client Feedback

Satoko Miyauchi
Goldwin America Inc. – Global Sales and Marketing

"Because our New York store was opening in a high-foot-traffic area, security was a particular priority for us. Since the location and environment were different from San Francisco, we consulted with SYSCOM on strengthening our surveillance cameras and access control systems.

Our stores also handle e-commerce fulfillment in addition to in-store sales, so a stable network environment covering both point-of-sale and back-office operations was essential. On top of that, construction and line installation schedules for store openings in the U.S. often don't go as planned, so we needed a partner who could coordinate flexibly across multiple vendors."

5. Implementation Approach

Rather than simply installing equipment, SYSCOM focused on keeping the entire project moving smoothly within a tight construction timeline, with particular attention to the following:

1. Centralizing coordination and getting ahead of scheduling
SYSCOM served as the single point of contact for coordination with the general contractor, internet service provider, and security vendor, proactively aligning schedules and construction requirements across each phase. By securing site survey and installation dates early, SYSCOM reduced the risk of construction delays and repeat site visits.

2. A project structure built to adapt to change
When construction schedules or site conditions shifted, SYSCOM adjusted equipment delivery plans and work schedules accordingly, minimizing any impact on the store opening date.

3. Pre-configuring and testing equipment in advance
SYSCOM engineers pre-configured and tested equipment before installation, reducing on-site work time. This lowered the risk of issues and rework during implementation, while also supporting standardized configurations and operations with future store openings in mind.

Client Feedback

"This project involved a complex web of stakeholders, including the construction company, design firm, and telecom providers. Throughout it, SYSCOM's Yu Yamamoto joined our regular meetings and stayed on top of the overall project status in real time.

Even when we needed to coordinate construction and system implementation schedules, Yamamoto-san communicated proactively and directly with each vendor, adjusting things flexibly as needed, which was a huge help. In particular, rather than letting information get lost through a chain of relayed messages, she gathered information directly herself, which let us catch issues early and kept the project moving smoothly."(Ms. Miyauchi)

6. Results

Despite the involvement of multiple vendors, the project achieved a smooth implementation, putting the security environment and IT infrastructure needed for the store opening in place and ready to use on schedule. Key results include:

Results: 1. Reduced operational burden through centralized security management 2. Reduced response time for system issues through cloud management 3. Streamlined setup for new store openings through standardization

1. Reduced operational burden through centralized security management
Surveillance cameras, access control, and intrusion detection, previously managed separately, were unified onto a single Verkada platform. Store manager and security team in headquarters can now check status from a single dashboard, reducing the workload of managing security operations.

2. Faster response times for store IT issues
Cisco Meraki's cloud management capabilities make it possible to check network equipment status and adjust settings remotely, without visiting the store in person. When issues arise, initial troubleshooting can be handled remotely, minimizing any impact on store operations.

3. Greater efficiency in future store rollouts through standardization
By establishing network, Wi-Fi, phone, surveillance camera, and access control systems as a standard solution, SYSCOM streamlined the design and setup process for new store openings, creating an environment where the same configuration can be readily replicated at future locations.

Client Feedback

"Since the store has only been open for a few months, it's still too early to measure quantitative results, but our on-site staff haven't reported any major issues, and store operations have been running smoothly. Especially with networks and systems, you usually only notice them when something goes wrong, so the fact that we've been able to operate without major trouble feels like a real result in itself.

Being able to consolidate our security, systems, and vendor communication through a single point of contact with SYSCOM also meant we no longer had to coordinate individually with multiple providers. For those of us managing store operations remotely from Japan, that's been a huge source of peace of mind and has significantly reduced our operational burden." (Ms. Miyauchi)

8. Why SYSCOM Was Selected

Client Feedback

"We chose SYSCOM because of their track record supporting our San Francisco store and other store projects across our group companies, which gave us confidence in trusting them with this one as well. As a company based in Japan managing stores overseas, having a point of contact we could consult with in Japanese, while SYSCOM handled coordination with local vendors in English, was also a major advantage. Our headquarters system team could communicate directly with SYSCOM in Japanese, which meant technical details were shared accurately and smoothly, and we could move forward with confidence.

Beyond networking and security, having a single team handle coordination across multiple vendors significantly reduced the burden on our operations side. Being able to communicate smoothly in both Japanese and English is an enormous asset when running an overseas store project." (Ms. Miyauchi)

They were professional and responsive, and whenever challenges came up, they worked flexibly with us to find solutions. Their support gave us great confidence throughout the project.

Even after the work was completed, they continued to check in and provide support whenever needed, which gave us peace of mind that we could operate smoothly and reliably after implementation."
