2. Introduction

Our client for this study is the asset management company within a larger client group, which itself is one of the largest insurance companies in Japan with operations in over 40 countries. Its Japanese headquarters issued a global security policy mandating that logs for each device and service must be stored and consolidated.

While the Japanese headquarters use an industry-leading SIEM system for their several thousand employees, the US subsidiary needed to build and operate its own solution. They wanted to implement a system that would perform at the same level as the SIEM products used in Japan, but for a lower cost and on a smaller scale.

Customer Feedback

SYSCOM has been in charge of the planning, configuration, and operation of our IT network for about a decade and has a deep understanding of our network environment, making them our first choice for support.

Additionally, our head office staff had worked with SYSCOM while stationed in the US, and our head office’s management trusted them a great deal.

Our company had no hesitation in requesting support from SYSCOM, and we had no concerns over the solution introduced by them.

3. Implemented Solution

Solution
Coralogix

We chose Coralogix because it has the same functionality as the industry’s largest SIEM products, such as analyzing, monitoring, and visualizing log data to proceed proactive analysis without scope or cost limitations.

To comply with global security policies, logs from multiple devices had to be consolidated and stored in a single location, and Coralogix was an ideal choice for achieving this.

Customer Feedback

After the head office tasked us with implementing a SIEM system as part of a group-wide information security project, we consulted with SYSCOM and decided on Coralogix. Their proposal covered all details requested by the head office, leaving us with no concerns or worries.

We found the system could also be introduced and operated at a low cost.

4. Known Issues

Before implementing Coralogix, it’s important to know ahead of time what needs to be achieved, how the system will be utilized, and whether introducing Coralogix is even necessary in the first place.

However, thanks to the client already knowing that they wanted to consolidate and store logs scattered across the company in a single place, and already specifying precisely which logs needed to be consolidated, there was little need for further clarification. The implementation was able to proceed as requested by the head office and on time.

導入前課題について

Customer Feedback

SYSCOM explained to us how Coralogix would meet the head office’s log requirements, which made the decision to implement Coralogix a lot easier.

We also have no security concerns, which are very important to our business. Currently, we have little direct contact with our customers in our business, so we don’t have access to things like their asset balances. Therefore, even in the event of a cyber attack, the risk is low and we would pose little inconvenience to society or our customers, even if our business operations ceased.
Introducing Coralogix has provided us with peace of mind regarding security in such an event.

5. Implementation Strategy

While Coralogix provides full professional support for building and maintaining the logging environment as well as building and customizing dashboards in the initial hands-on stage, it fell to SYSCOM to support during the actual data migration, including configuration changes to the company’s AWS products, Microsoft products, firewalls, and more, as well as testing with Coralogix PS during data migration and environment construction.

Additionally, while logs needed to be set up for each device with Coralogix, thanks to the many applications for each system, SYSCOM already knew the company’s network environment and was able to smoothly set these environments without issue in about a month.

Customer Feedback

Work was reliably done on schedule, and SYSCOM kept us informed regarding the implementation process, progress, updates, and completion of work, enabling us to leave the job to them with peace of mind.

We were able to communicate progress and status from the site to the head office on a case-by-base basis, and both ourselves and the head office were very satisfied with how the project was handled.

6. Results

データの集約と蓄積Data Aggregation and Storage

拡張性の獲得Gain Scalability

コスト節約Cost Savings

Key Results:

  • 1. Data from multiple solutions is now consolidated and stored in a single location.

  • 2. The system is scalable and can function as a SIEM when necessary.

  • 3. The cost is a tenth of competing products.

Thanks to Coralogix, the client is now able to consolidate, accumulate, and visualize logs from important devices in a single location. In potential future cybersecurity incidents, the company will be able to quickly check logs and respond. Prior to this, logs had not been obtained from devices scattered throughout the site, so quickly checking past history or detailed logs was not possible. Introducing Coralogix has enhanced security.

To the second point, Coralogix has increased scalability thanks to the ability to connect logs, allowing them to manage future growth in the office size and number of devices. Though not yet implemented, Coralogix can also function as a SIEM to detect abnormalities in real time, issue alerts, and perform monitoring. Should the need arise, it will be able to quickly shift to a monitoring system.

Finally, Coralogix provides the necessary functions while also meeting the budget of the US branch, leading to the solution satisfying both parties—a major achievement.

Customer Feedback

One of our most important goals was creating an environment that met all requirements of the head office. We can now comply with global security policies and consolidate, store, and visualize equipment logs in a single location. Though we haven’t yet integrated all our environments into a single operation, the logs for the entire network have been accumulated, giving us a greater sense of security in the event of a security incident.

When handling customer information in the future, we’ll consult with SYSCOM again and use Coralogix as a countermeasure against cyber attacks and malware.
